FAQ

Questions about measuring and operating in AI-mediated discovery.

This FAQ covers SIGNAL’s five modules, data and privacy boundaries, metric definitions, independent verification, paid AI media, authoritative information distribution and the broader InnMedia ecosystem.

Platform

What is InnMedia SIGNAL?

InnMedia SIGNAL is InnMedia Group’s platform for AI intelligence, first-party AI analytics, independent verification, advertising and authoritative information distribution. It is designed for brands, advertisers, agencies and enterprises operating in an AI-mediated discovery environment.

What does SIGNAL measure?

SIGNAL can measure external AI answer behavior, brand visibility, competitor presence, citations, sources, prompt/intent trends, first-party AI crawler/agent activity, AI referrals, conversions and other outcomes depending on the connected data and module.

What is the difference between Intelligence and Analytics?

Intelligence measures the external AI answer environment: demand, prompts/intents, visibility, recommendations, citations, competitors and sources. Analytics measures first-party activity on authorized digital properties: crawlers, agents, content retrieval, referrals, conversions and revenue.

Does SIGNAL see private ChatGPT or other AI conversations?

No general SIGNAL capability should be described as access to private user conversations. External visibility uses controlled measurement, authorized platform data where available and other lawful signals. First-party Analytics uses data from systems the customer authorizes.

How can SIGNAL estimate what people ask AI if conversations are private?

SIGNAL can build modeled demand and prompt/intent panels using approved demand signals, category research, controlled sampling, first-party data and authorized platform telemetry where available. Modeled demand is labeled estimated.

Metrics and measurement

What is AI Visibility?

AI Visibility is a scoped measure of how consistently a brand or entity appears across a defined set of relevant AI answer opportunities. Interpret it with the platform, market, language, prompt universe, time period and methodology. See the metric definition.

What is AI Share of Voice?

AI Share of Voice measures a brand’s relative presence compared with a defined competitor set in a defined AI measurement universe.

What is Recommendation Rate?

Recommendation Rate is the share of relevant measured AI answers where the brand or product is actively recommended under SIGNAL’s classification methodology.

What is Citation Coverage?

Citation Coverage measures how broadly eligible sources appear as citations across relevant measured answer opportunities.

What is “observed” data?

Directly measured data such as a server request, answer observation or conversion event within a defined scope.

What is “modeled” data?

A value derived from sampling, inference or a statistical model rather than directly observed as a complete population. Modeled values stay labeled.

What is illustrative demo data?

Synthetic data used to demonstrate a product interface. It is not a customer result or market benchmark.

Verify

What is InnMedia Verify?

InnMedia Verify is the independent audit layer inside SIGNAL. It evaluates claims made by GEO providers, agencies, advertising platforms, PR campaigns, publishers or internal teams using defined evidence and methodology.

Do I need to buy InnMedia Ads to use Verify?

No. Verify is designed to work independently. A brand can keep its existing agencies and platforms while using InnMedia solely as a third-party measurement provider.

Can Verify audit a GEO agency?

Yes. An audit can establish a baseline, define the promised KPI, measure post-campaign change, assess evidence quality and classify a claim as Supported, Partially supported, Unsupported, Inconclusive or Not measurable.

Can Verify prove that a campaign caused a result?

Only when the available data and methodology support causal inference. A before/after change alone is not automatically causal. Incrementality may require holdouts, matched markets, synthetic controls or another valid design.

What is an AI Access / Scraper Audit?

It checks how AI crawlers and agents actually access a digital property and compares observed behavior with intended policy, including allowed, blocked, limited, failed or mismatched states.

Ads

What is InnMedia Ads?

InnMedia Ads is the paid media orchestration module for supported AI advertising environments. It unifies campaign context, budget, measurement, attribution and optimization across supported channels.

Does InnMedia Ads let brands pay for organic AI answers?

No. SIGNAL does not claim to sell or manipulate organic answers. Ads refers to paid inventory and commercial formats supported by underlying platforms.

Distribution

What is InnMedia Distribution?

Distribution helps brands structure, verify, localize and deliver authoritative information through publisher and machine-readable channels including Web, API, MCP, A2A, Mobile and TRUYN where configured.

Is Distribution the same as advertising?

No. Ads is paid media. Distribution is authoritative information supply and availability. Disclosed sponsored content can exist in publisher workflows, but Distribution is not hidden advertising.

Can SIGNAL guarantee that an AI system will cite my content?

No. SIGNAL can improve information availability, structure, provenance, source coverage and distribution, then measure outcomes. Individual AI systems control their own retrieval and answer behavior.

What is GEO?

Generative Engine Optimization is the practice of improving how accurately, frequently and favorably a brand, source or information asset is represented or cited in generative/answer systems through legitimate content, technical, source, entity and distribution improvements.

Does SIGNAL provide GEO services?

SIGNAL measures GEO outcomes through Intelligence/Verify and supports information distribution through Distribution. Exact commercial service scope is defined in the relevant product offering or contract.

Analytics, data and privacy

What data does Analytics need?

Depending on deployment, Analytics can use authorized CDN/edge/server logs, web/app events, referrals, conversion events, CRM, commerce data and platform data.

Why server-side logs for AI crawler analytics?

Many crawlers and agents do not execute browser JavaScript, so client-side analytics alone can miss machine activity. Server-side or edge data provides direct request evidence.

How does SIGNAL handle competitors?

Customers can define competitor sets or use approved discovery workflows. Intelligence compares visibility, recommendations, topics, citations, narratives, markets and other metrics within a defined scope.

Can SIGNAL work across languages?

Yes. High-quality measurement should use native-language prompt panels and local source environments rather than simply translating one English panel.

Can SIGNAL work for governments or institutions?

Public institutions can use Intelligence and Verify to understand how AI systems represent public information, institutions, policies, locations or national topics, subject to applicable governance and data rules.

Can agencies use SIGNAL?

Yes. Agencies can use Intelligence, Analytics and reports for client work and Verify to provide independent evidence. Multi-client and portfolio controls belong in the agency/enterprise architecture.

InnMedia ecosystem

What is InnMedia Group?

InnMedia Group builds infrastructure for the AI information economy across creators, publishers, brands, advertisers, AI systems and software agents.

What is InnMedia SOLO?

InnMedia SOLO is InnMedia Group’s self-service AI content platform for creators and smaller publishers.

What is InnMedia OS?

InnMedia OS is the B2B operating system for professional publishers and enterprise content organizations.

What is InnMedia Exchange?

InnMedia Exchange is the licensing and transaction infrastructure connecting information rights holders and AI systems.

What is InnMedia Data Graph?

The Data Graph connects content, facts, sources, entities, rights, AI activity, campaigns, attribution and transactions across the InnMedia ecosystem.

What is Truyn Network?

Truyn is the distributed network and infrastructure layer associated with the broader InnMedia ecosystem.

Is SIGNAL the same product as the Data Graph?

No. SIGNAL is a customer-facing product. The Data Graph is a shared data/provenance/intelligence layer that can support SIGNAL and other InnMedia products.
